Start work right away!

Insulators Local 118 offers the Improver Program, a pre-apprenticeship program that allows people interested in our
trade to go to work almost immediately. Applicants must have a high school diploma and a good knowledge of math.
Applicants are given a permit through the Insulators Union even if they’re not yet in the Apprenticeship Program. This allows
them to go to work on jobs with other insulators, get a good feel for our trade and valuable on-the-job experience.

If you’d like to know more about signing up for the Improver Program or becoming an apprentice, contact the Insulators Union
office
or email Instructor Ken Jakobsson.

Apply for membership

Contact the Insulators' union office and ask for a Permit Application. If you are living out of town, you may send your
application and resume to the office by mail or fax. If your application is accepted, you will be called by the union office and
dispatched as quickly as possible to one of our signatory contractors.

After you have worked for 3 months in the industry, you will be sent a Union Application to formally join the Insulator Union
Local 118.
When the Union Application is completed and returned to the union office, your application is brought to a
membership meeting where a vote is taken. If you require training, your apprenticeship papers will be sent to you.

There is a one-time initiation fee and an elevation fee to journeyperson status.
Some of the following certificates are mandatory on some job sites and all would be assets:

Hearing Card (WCB Hearing Test) / Construction Safety Training System / H2S Alive Course (Hydrogen Sulphide)
First Aid (any level) / WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
